Both boys were excited in the morning about going. We headed out to the local orchard, Terhune Orchards at Van Kirk Road, and saw that many others had the same plan. There were many out today wanting to pick apples.
The first thing we did when we got to the orchard was grab a bag and a map of the types of apples they had at the orchard. They have a lot of different types of apples, from Fuji, to Red Delicious, to Empire and Macintosh. I think there were about 10 types of apples! There were some I had never even heard of. Some were not ready for picking while others were ok to pick.
We figured to only pick the ones that were sweet as those are the ones the kiddos like. Today we picked Fuji and Empire apples.
The kiddos really enjoyed picking apples. Some were out of reach so Daddy had to help.
When walking around be careful of the bees or other bugs that are eating the apples that have fallen. There were quite a bit around and the kiddos started to complain about them when they noticed they were around.
Here are the kiddos happy with their apples!
We walked out to the orchards when we got there, but took a wagon back to the start to get our bag weighed to pay.
It was a fun time for all!
Have you been apple picking?
Yes! In fact my oldest daughter never lets a year go by with out apple picking! It was a tradition for my parents and daughters to go together that has continued on. What did you make with your apples?? She made cobbler this year. Enjoy your apples!!
ReplyDeleteThat's great that the tradition has continued on. It's a great Fall family activity! We've just been eating them normally, but I may venture out and make a pie! :) Thanks Diane!
