Halloween Candy Craving Crushers

It's Tuesday and I am linking up with host, Jessica Joy for her The Fit Dish Link-Up every Tuesday.

Today' s topic is "Halloween candy craving crushers: How will you avoid sugar overdose?".

With Halloween just around the corner, and if you have kiddos like mine. They are already so excited about getting candy. We were just at Boo at the Zoo this last weekend and they were all about getting as much candy as they could.
It is fun for them and I am happy they are excited, but we do really need to think about ways to tame the sweet tooth. Having lots of candy in the house can be really bad for me as I love sweets.

Here are 5 tips on how I am going to avoid sugar overdose:

1. Eat right during the day. If you eat normal and eat right it will be easier to avoid candy if you are full. If you think about saving room and eating less just so you can have candy or eating less on purpose, then it's not good. You will just end up eating tons of candy, exactly what you do not want to do. Just eat normally and hopefully you won't have the urge to eat that piece of candy.

2. If you can substitute something instead of eating candy that is good. When we were at Boo at the Zoo last weekend, I was good and did not eat a single piece of candy while there. What was neat, was they actually handed out Vegetable Chips at one of the booths and I ate that instead. The chips were actually pretty good and helped me avoid the sweets. I will try and eat fruits that have natural sugar instead of eating the bad sweets.

3. Hide it. As parents, we will let the kiddos pick a piece of candy each day for a treat if they eat well during dinner. After that, we will hide the candy. Maybe I will have Hubby hide it so I won't know where it is. That way, I can't even get to it. ;)

4. Think about how many calories and fat is in it. Looking at the ingredients and how many calories one little snack size chocolate bar or whatever candy you have has, can be an eye opener and deter you from eating it. It's happened to me lots of times, but sometimes I justify myself because I exercised hard or ran a certain number of miles that day. Either way, looking at the label can be good, just so you know what it is you are eating and exactly how many calories are in it.

5. Eat only 1 or 2 pieces. If you can't stop yourself from actually eating candy, eat only one or two pieces of candy. Limiting the candy amount helps. Just pick out the one or two pieces, then take it away. Portion control for candy will help you not eat the whole bag! :)
