It's Tuesday and I am linking up with hosts Jessica Joy and Jill Conyers for their The Fit Dish Link-Up every Tuesday.
Today's topic is to list my "Top 5 All Time Best Health and Fitness Decisions". Thinking back there are lots of good health and fitness decisions I've made but these are my top 5:
1. Participating in sports like basketball and track and field when I was younger. They gave me that extra boost of confidence that I needed when I was in school. I was pretty shy back in school and participating in school sports got me out of my shell. It was great being part of a team and I learned that winning wasn't everything but just being able to share experiences with others made it all worthwhile.
2. Hiking with my friend Mindy to Mt. Pilchuck for the first time. This was back in high school and I had never been hiking before. She took both me and my sister to hike up Mt. Pilchuck and I thought it was the coolest thing! It was steep and long and when we got to the top, there was a lookout and the views were amazing. After this hike, I knew hiking would be a part of my life from that point forward. I was in awe of nature and knew there was more I wanted to see.
3. Running my first half marathon in 2005. My first half marathon was the Seattle Half marathon in November of 2005. It was a big deal and what made it fun was I did it with a bunch of friends. After that first half marathon, I caught the running bug and just wanted to keep on running and improving. Within a year I improved drastically and new that running would be an important part of my life.
4. Signing up for the Nike San Francisco Women's Half Marathon in 2009. This was a big deal because the time I signed up I was pregnant with my first son and did not think we would actually get in because it was a lottery. Low and behold we got in and it was a great decision because training for it, helped lose a lot of my pregnancy weight. Most of the 40 lbs I gained was lost training for that race. I ran the half marathon 4 months after giving birth and it was an awesome race.
5. Starting my blog Run-Hike-Play. This is a great decision in that with blogging I have found all of you. It is great to have such a wonderful and supportive #fitfam! I have gotten to communicate and even meet people I probably never would have if I had not started my blog and gotten on social media like Twitter and Instagram. I have found that with blogging I can share my experiences and inspire others, just as other bloggers are inspiring me. I love to read other peoples blogs and I learn a lot from them in regards to training, what to wear, gear, races, etc.. It is so cool that I can be a part of this great #fitfam #dishthefit community. I love connecting with you all.
Those are my top 5 health and fitness decisions, what is one of yours?
