Brooklyn RnR Half Marathon Training Week 1 and Weekend Update 7/13-7/19

Here's a recap of last week's workouts:

Monday 7/13 - 2 mile walk
Tuesday 7/14 - 4 mile run
Wednesday 7/15 - Was supposed to do a 5 mile build up run but with rain and thunderstorms got in T25 Beta Core Speed for my workout.
Thursday 7/16 - 5 mile build up run make up
Friday 7/17 - 5 mile build up run
Saturday 7/18 - 2 mile hike with the kiddos
Sunday 7/19 - 8.5 mile long run
I've officially started half marathon training and so far so good. I've kept up with the workouts from the My Asics App, made some modifications but in a good way (at least I think so). Having not taken a break from running since my last half marathon in May, I have added a little more mileage than the app says, but only on the comfortable and easy runs. So far I am liking the app and happy with how my first week went. Here is what the upcoming week looks like for me:
I will probably add a mile to my  run on Tuesday and long run on Sunday since that's what I did this last week.

On to the weekend,  we have been doing a lot of cleaning and getting rid of things we no longer need to free up more space. I live in a small condo and sometimes you just need to clear things out. It's amazing how much stuff just sits there and is not used. I've found that we have so much stuff sitting around especially toys that the kiddos have that take up space and they aren't even playing with them any longer. It is so nice to have more space and the place looks so much more open and nicer. What's great is the kiddos don't even miss what we either donated or gave to friends/neighbors.

Aside from lots of cleaning up, on Saturday we got out to go on our first geocache adventure. For those that don't know what geocaching is, you are given coordinates and by using gps (I use my phone) you search for a cache (a box or little case that has a log book and usually little trinkets where you take one item and leave an item for someone else to take). It is fun for both the kiddos and me! I will most likely do a post on geocaching once we do a few more.
After our little find, we headed out to do a short hike on the canal trail to the Swinging Bridge. It was a nice hike, but it was warm and humid. Good thing I brought lots of water. It was beautiful out and it was cool to see a bunch of kayakers on the canal.
Here are the kiddos on the swinging bridge.
Below is the tricky crossing to get to the bridge or back to the canal towpath. Both kiddos did great crossing it.
On Sunday morning I got my long run in. It was pretty hot early and very humid. Let's just say I was drenched at the end. However, it was another beautiful run on the trail.
Most of Sunday was spent relaxing at home. We did get out and find another geocache. It was a fun find. I have already scoped out our next adventures. :)
That sums up the weekend! Linking this post up with Tara at Running N’ Reading for her Weekend Update.

  5. Geocache sounds like fun. I recently ran into a group a people in our neighborhood park trying to find one. They thought it was in the creek. I don't think they ever found it. Sounds like you are off to a great start with your training!

  11. Thanks! Geocaching is lots of fun! They are sometimes hidden pretty well, so well that you can't find it which can be disappointing. However, there are so many hidden (at least in my area) that you can just go on to another search. Have a great week!

  12. Great job on your Sunday run!!!! The Geocatching thing sounds awesome, I would love to do that with my nieces and nephews. I am totally looking forward to your review, if you can let us know if this is across the country or only in certain areas, if there is something like this in Utah, I am so there!
