Mizuno has come out with a brand new Neutral shoe, the Mizuno Wave Sky. I've tried Mizuno's before and thought they were decent shoes. The styles I tested out were the Enigma and Wave Rider 20's. The Wave Riders were a less cushioned shoe and the Enigma a max cushion shoe. I had heard that the Wave Sky's were also a max cushion shoe and with another marathon coming up in the future, felt these would be great to try for longer runs.
I was pretty excited when I received them. Who doesn't love getting new shoes? The first thing I noticed were the colors. I love the yellow with the greenish blue color and silver. So bright and inviting. They are asking to be run in!
Here's a back of the shoe view. I like how the name of the shoe is at the heel.
As I said earlier, it is a neutral shoe. The shoe is designed for neutral runners. If you aren't sure what type of shoe you should be wearing, I definitely recommend going to a running store and finding out your gait. They will usually have you run on a treadmill and see how you run, then let you know the type of shoe you should wear - stability vs. neutral.
Key features of the Wave Sky:
Optimized cloudwave®
technology and the most u4icX foam of any Mizuno shoe, the Wave
Sky brings you an intensely soft and smooth ride. It redefines the
max cushioning experience by delivering the most plush and lively
feel of any Mizuno shoe ever made. Plus, a redesigned anatomical
sock liner helps ensure you get the most comfortable fit possible.
I've been running in them the last couple of weeks and I'm liking them. The are very comfy and do have a lot of cushioning. I would say that I do like them a lot more than the Enigma's. The cushion is great and running in them is pretty smooth. I would say the only drawback is the toe box. After having run in Altra's for a while now, I noticed that my feet are a bit squished in the front of the shoes. My toes are not as free as in my Altra's but after each run, I think I am getting used to the feel (maybe the shoe is stretching?). I don't mind adding these shoes into my rotation and using them for cross training workouts. I will keep wearing these and alternate between these and my Altra's.
Overall, they are good neutral shoes. Great for those that like lots of cushion and a soft ride. I really love the look. The design is great and these shoes have become my favorite go to for wearing recently because I really like how they look. For more info and color options, you can check them out on the Mizuno website here.
Happy running!! :)
